Since 2008, the Richelieu-Yamaska HSSC has used a wide communication strategy to make safety an organizational priority in all services. The project, more organizational than communication-based, is framed within a larger context of integrated risk management and safety culture promotion. With “Safety is my business” as the theme, the HSSC established a whole instrumentation, as much for staff as for clients, with the goal of promoting safety among clients on an ongoing basis. The effort continues today and the HSSC notes that since 2008, there has been a significant increase in the reporting of adverse events linked to a decrease in adverse events that affected the client. Staff members report more and display greater vigilance when providing care and services.
