For the past three years, Villa Marie-Claire’s in-home monitoring program has included an educational assistance meeting focusing solely on child safety in the home environment. This meeting reflects the importance placed on client safety. The safety meeting provides an opportunity to raise awareness and inform parents in difficulty about precautions to take and dangers to be avoided for children in the home. The idea of introducing a home visit focused on safety arose because educational staff took several measures throughout the monitoring period regarding precautions to take to ensure child safety. Raising awareness of and informing clients from the start about the monitoring improves child safety and immediately identifies the client’s most pressing child safety needs. Clients can then be involved in the treatment plan where required. The most serious problems can be addressed faster and be closely monitored.
