The Middleton Adult Day Program is a collaboration between the Annapolis Valley District Health Authority and Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). The program has reduced isolation by socializing clients with their peers. Clients are eager to attend the program and often request to come more than one day a week. Engaging clients in meaningful activities offered in the context of the friendship and group participation is a key component in promoting health and well-being to improve a client’s health, especially for those who live alone. NSCC representatives have reflected that the program is a good fit with the college’s mandate of lifelong learning. Some staff members volunteer their time to organize social events for the clients and also share their individual talents by participating as entertainers.
