The Toronto East General Hospital’s physician credentialing and reappointment process mandates that every appointment and reappointment requires a cross check with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario immunization and surveillance requirements and disclosure of health issues. This is above and beyond what is required by the College and is more stringent than the expectations of other peer organizations. Among the positive outcomes is improved workplace safety for physicians regarding health issues and immunization requirements. The annual cross check allows physicians to be informed of possible impending complaints and to proactively prepare. This process is also a risk mitigation for the hospital to enable proactive action if there are performance issues.
