The strategy and its components have moved AVH from an organization focused almost entirely on the delivery of health care services to one that is also committed to improving the health status of the population. This commitment is described in governing board policy. The Healthy Public Policy Advocacy Task Team which included the President and CEO, executive, Community Health Board members, managers and front line employees completed a two year process that provides us with a framework for the organizational healthy public policy work. The process itself built knowledge and commitment. AVH now celebrates our partnerships which have contributed to and in some cases, lead provincial and national public policy work. So far, it has been used to stimulate dialogue within the District Health Authority Board, Executive, Leadership Team, District Medical Advisory Committee and with a variety of quality teams and other employees. The intent is to include it in employee orientation on an ongoing basis.
