The Ottawa Hospital has developed and implemented a world-class nursing professional practice model that has resulted in enhanced overall nursing engagement. The Ottawa Hospital Model of Nursing Practice was developed from the ground up with significant clinical nursing and patient involvement. As it is implemented, the model reviews staff mix and ratios, the process of care, professional standards, and complexity of care, including outlining the scope of practice and qualifications of unregulated care providers. There has been significant national and international interest in the model, with the system now being implemented in other organizations.
