The Nurses for Tomorrow Innovation and Research Fellowship Program was set up to support frontline nurses in developing leadership capacity at the point of care, and to provide an opportunity for frontline nurses to contribute to achieving the strategic goals of the organization. The fellowship is two days a week for six months and staff are supported by at least two leaders who provide ongoing leadership development education and support throughout the fellowship program (approximately 0.5-1 day per week). Impacts include engagement of nursing staff in quality improvement projects, interprofessional collaboration, and leadership development, development of leadership capacity at point of care, and a variety of unit-specific improvements.
