The Nursing Staff Development Department at The Bermuda Hospitals Board aims to provide an accessible way for nursing staff to complete their required competency assessments. The Clinical Nurse Educators (CNE) wanted to place as many of the competencies online as possible. The competencies are now on the hospitals’ network and the CNEs perform the return demonstration competencies on the individual units. This decreases the CNE’s time required to run Competency Fairs and takes learning and assessments to the point of care. The ability to remain on their units and still meet the requirements of competency assessments has been a welcome move for nursing leadership and the staff nurses. This has been a cost saver as the staff does not have to be replaced while attending competency fairs. This leading practice supports the Bermuda Hospitals Board’s mission “To ensure the highest quality healthcare through service, education, and leadership.”
