Not every relationship was meant to be. Sometimes, that can be the case even between a patient and a physician. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, what can be done? This was an issue to be investigated by the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Involving a dedicated Patient Family Advisor in discussions and decision making has made all the difference. A new process to resolve patient-physician relationship issues supports decision-making when a patient requests a new or different physician.
