'Doing it Right' was implemented to reduce hospital-acquired infections. With the support of senior management, recommendations from the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee’s Best Practices for Environmental Cleaning for Prevention and Control of Infections were implemented in fall 2009. Visual clean had always been a priority, but the focus was now on hospital clean as well as hotel clean. One of biggest challenges with staff at all levels was to prove that visual clean does not necessarily mean hospital clean. Improving high touch surface cleaning has impacted many areas of the hospital. The Environmental Services team members truly feel that they are an integral part of patient safety, as well as feeling more knowledgeable, competent, and engaged in the overall mission, vision, and values of the organization.
