Due to the global pandemic of Covid-19, the Grade 7 Immunization Program was interrupted in the spring of 2020. This resulted with a cohort of appropriately 9000 Nova Scotia Grade 7 students with an incomplete series of school vaccines. In addition, students who missed the first round of clinics in the fall of 2019 have not been immunized and thus are at risk for preventable diseases.
During the summer, Public Health successfully immunized approximately 76% of the students who missed their second round of immunizations using Infection Prevention Control guidelines and a social distancing model. Nova Scotia was the only province to design and implement a provincial catch up program during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
