Responsible Technical CommitteeTC027 – Communication in Health Services

Scope: HSO’s Communication in Minority Language Situations Standard aims to improve access for Canada’s two official linguistic minorities (French outside of Quebec and English inside of Quebec) to safe, high-quality health services and social services across the continuum of care. The standard criteria are grouped into three sections based on these functions: 1) Communication and language services; 2) Governance, leadership, and workforce; 3) Engagement, accountability, and organizational culture.

Project Need: The standard is being developed to provide healthcare institutions with guidance on how to ensure quality and safety within their unique institutional and linguistic context; policy makers a blueprint for the requirements to designate and recognize healthcare institutions offering quality healthcare of linguistic minorities in their jurisdictions; and external assessment bodies with measurable requirements to include in assessment programs.

Proposed Timeline: The standard for Communication in Official Minority Language Situations will be published on the HSO website and appropriate portals by the end of July 2018 (31/07/2018).

Posted on: TBD
