Project Need: HSO’s current Mental Health and Substance Misuse and Problem Gambling standards are used by a variety of stakeholders and service providers both nationally and internationally. These standards undergo periodic maintenance and are due for revision. To ensure that this standard will be optimally relevant, current best practices, evidence from scientific literature, and experiential knowledge will inform the standard.
Scope: HSO 22004 addresses the provision of high quality and safe mental health and addiction care and services. The standard will apply to all health and social service organizations providing mental health and/or addiction services.The standard will follow the client’s health and wellness journey through the health and social service system, including in-patient and community-based settings. Content within the mental health and addiction standard will cover the treatment of concurrent disorders to reflect integrated care best practices.Out of scope for this standard is content related to specific or specialized clinical care interventions and/or recommendations for specific mental health or addiction issues.
