Path2Quality (a.k.a. P2Q) is a collaborative between the two organizations that represent Laboratory Medicine physicians in Ontario:  the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) Section on Laboratory Medicine and the Ontario Association of Pathologists.

Path2Quality, established in 2009, is comprised of the Executive of its two founding organizations who meet on a regular basis to identify and address issues that affect the work of Ontario’s laboratory physicians and the patients whom they serve.  P2Q’s vision is a comprehensive, integrated, high quality laboratory medicine system, supported by appropriate resources that will be the benchmark for professional and patient satisfaction in Canada.  As illustrated more fully in its 5-Year Report, key foci of P2Q designed to realize this vision include:  knowledge generation / development of unique, made-for-Ontario tools and systems that support the work of Ontario’s laboratory physicians; professional and patient advocacy / strengthening the system of patient care; knowledge dissemination / building leadership capacity within the profession; and membership. Since its inception in 2009, P2Q has established itself as a respected and trusted voice for Ontario’s laboratory physicians earning that role and respect largely because of the unique tools and resources it has developed to support their work.

Our Standards2Quality (S2Q) Guidelines document articulates the basic policies and procedures that should be in place in a quality management program to govern the medical processes of professional pathologic interpretation, including cancer diagnosis.

Our Work2Quality (W2Q) Guidelines document is a unique, made-for-Ontario workload measurement system that identifies the human resource and infrastructure supports that are required to support a quality management program for pathology.

In just 5 short years, key health care stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, Cancer Care Ontario, etc look to P2Q members for guidance on quality, resource and other professional and patient care issues affecting laboratory medicine. P2Q has earned that respect, confidence and trust via the advocacy work it has conducted and the unique resources and tools it has developed to support the work of Ontario’s laboratory physicians.  Full details can be found in the Path2Quality 5 Year Report.
